Peanut Butter Banana Rice Krispy Treats

Can we talk about selective hearing today? My husband has lately mastered, mastered the art of selective hearing. He informs me that he's so good at focusing on one thing he has a hard time noticing anything else. Riiiiight...

The other night I thought I was carrying on a very in depth conversation with him. Little did I realize that due to the TV being on, he'd heard absolutely nothing I'd said. I called him out on it... or at least tried to. My attempt went like this:

Me: "Hello?... Hello?.... Are you there?....  (no response) You're not even listening!.... (no response)... What did I just ask you?... (no response)... earth to husband!?....... (time change tactics) Did you hear about Kobe Bryant?"
Husband: "Huh? What about Kobe Bryant?"

I rest my case.

Ah, it's a good thing I love him. And it's a good thing it's Father's Day. For that reason I'll give him a break. And it's doesn't hurt that I have these peanut butter banana rice krispy treats to keep me company either.

Peanut butter and bananas is an awesome combination. If you've never had a pb and banana sandwich I highly recommend it. There's something to the contrast of the sweet bananas with the thick salty peanut butter. Yum. It's like Yin and Yang. It's just crying out to become a rice krispy treat.

So I obliged. I used a banana pudding mix as the base flavor, then added in the peanut butter flavor with some peanut butter chips. Yumo. I could eat a bagful of those things straight. Which is why I rarely buy them. But they work like magic in these treats. The chewy marshmallows and crispy cereal pieces just bring the whole thing together. So special shout out to all those great dads out there today! Go whip up a batch of these delicious treats, trust me they'll thank you. Now excuse me, I think I need to see what happened to the rest of those peanut butter chips...

Peanut Butter Banana Rice Krispy Treats

5 Tbsp butter
6 cups marshmallows
1/2 cup dry banana cream pudding mix
6 cups rice krispies
3/4 cup peanut butter chips

Mix the rice krispies and peanut butter chips in a bowl and set aside. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and add the marshmallows. Continuing stirring until mostly all melted, then add in the dry pudding mix.

Once the mallows are fully melted, take them off heat and pour over the rice krispies. Stir lightly to combine. Dump into a lightly greased 9x9 pan and let sit 5 minutes. Then go and light press into the pan with greased hands.  Allow them to cool for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
