Milky Way Rice Krispy Treats

Some days it just seems like everything goes wrong doesn't it? Anyone else have one of those days recently? Let me give a sampling of what today went like for me:

Mallow and Co: Milky Way Rice Krispy Treats

First my child decided 5:45am would be a good time for everyone to wake up. 5:45. Really? Ah... The morning was then filled with tantrums because Mom wouldn't let the teddy bears go swimming in the pool, refusal to eat breakfast (hunger strike?), and an abundant amount of high pitch squealing and toy throwing.

Somehow I managed to get the girl down for a nap at around 11am. I immediately charged my fridge for my secret stash of hummus. I needed it. An it was a great idea, up until the part where I accidentally dropped the bowl and shards of glass littered my kitchen floor. Ahhh... 20 minutes of sweeping up glass and not even a bowl of hummus left to make me feel better.

About 30 minutes later the child woke up and it was time to make lunch. This time I managed to not only drop my whole tupperware of teriyaki chicken, but I also took out an entire container of yogurt. I spent the next 20 minutes cleaning up this mess while my daughter made snow yogurt angels on my tile floor.

In the whole 30 seconds that took me to do, my little demon had found a red crayon and was channeling her inner Picaso all over the floor. Have you ever tried to get crayon off of travertine? Not as easy as you might think.

Ok, I'll speed the rest of this up. The remainder of the afternoon was somewhat normal.... although I use the word "normal" hesitantly. Does anyone else have excessive amounts of squealing going on in their house 24/7? Ours usually revolve around the toy bin being shut, chairs being to high to climb on, running out of goldfish crackers... it's a rough life. But by the end of the day I had decided my floors needed one more cleaning. While making a gourmet dinner of scrambled eggs and toast, I and managed to let a few eggs roll off my counter onto the floor again. Ah... out came the mop for the 4th time that day.

Mallow and Co: Milky Way Rice Krispy TreatsWow. If today doesn't call for a pick me up I don't know what does. Enter Milky Way Rice Krispy Treats. Milky Way... isn't that such a great name? I don't know who was the genius behind that one but they deserved a major bonus or something because it’s a winner. All I imagine is biting into a silky smooth bar of caramel and milk chocolate. Creamy decadence.

And that pretty much sums these treats up. The candy bars bring the ooey gooey goodness of rice krispies up a notch. The crispy cereal pieces still give the needed texture, while the marshmallows melted together with the caramel and chocolate is pretty much heaven on earth. Heaven on Earth people. So for those of you who had a day like mine, here's your answer to happiness. And for the rest of you, you'd better make some anyways, just in case. You never know when you might decide to destroy your kitchen floor all in one day...

Milky Way Rice Krispy Treats

24 Fun Sized Milky Ways
5 Tbsp butter
6 cups marshmallows
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 cups rice krispies

Chop up 8 of your Milky Ways and mix them together with the rice krispies in a bowl. Set aside. Melt the butter and remaining 16 Milky Ways (chop them up too - they melt faster) in a large saucepan over medium heat. Turn the heat down to low and add the marshmallows. Continuing stirring until mostly all melted, then add in the vanilla.

Once the mallows are fully melted, take them off heat and pour over the rice krispies. Stir lightly to combine. Dump into a lightly greased 9x9 pan and let sit 5 minutes. Then go and light press into the pan with greased hands.  Allow them to cool for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
