So I saw this bumper sticker on the back of a mini van the other day that made me kind of laugh. I'm sure you've all seen it before, it's the one that says "Baby on Board!" in a yellow diamond... Does anyone else think it's ironic to have one of those on a mini van? Doesn't the fact that you are driving around in a mini van scream "I have children! Stay clear!"
Now I'm not saying this because I'm a mini van hater. As a matter of fact I'm have a secret crush on them. I can't wait till the day when I can justify purchasing a Swagger Wagon myself. Am I embarrassed? No. I am secure in my coolness. And seriously, what's not to love? Automatic sliding doors. AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS. Can life get better? TV screens... Everywhere. More cup holders than you can count. Safety features galore. Room for everyone and their dog. Did I mention they have Automatic Sliding Doors? I'm about 2 children away from buying one. I can't wait.
Anyways, enough of that. I just had to share that bumper sticker experience with you all. Now on to the treat of the day: S'more Rice Krispy Treats. Let's be honest, you all knew this was coming sometime. Because really, have you evermet anybody who doesn't like s'mores? And what better way to mix them up than in a rice krispy treat?
These treats use some delicious Golden Grahams to give it the signature graham cracker flavor. (but you still need to use rice krispies as well... if you only use Golden Grahams the treats get too hard/crunchy) And then we get the delicious chocolate goodness from the chocolate chips. And finally we get a super marshmallow boost by using both real marshmallows and marshmallow bits. Oh man. I wish I could send each of you a piece of these. They are so good. Do yourself a favor and go pick up a box of Golden Grahams, get out your bag of marshmallows, and pull out that bag of chocolate chips you have hidden from your kids/husband/roommates/etc... and whip up a batch of these things!
S'mores Rice Krispy Treats
4 Tbsp butter
6 cups marshmallows
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups rice krispies
2 cups Golden Grahams
3/4 cup Marshmallow Bits
3/4 cup chocolate chips
Mix together the rice krispies, Golden Grahams, Marshmallow Bits, and chocolate chips. Set aside. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and add the marshmallows. Stir until almost totally melted, then add the vanilla extract. Continuing stirring until the marshmallows are all melted, slow and steady.
Once fully melted, take them off heat and pour over the rice krispy mixture. Stir lightly to combine. Dump into a lightly greased 9x9 pan and let sit 5 minutes. Then go and light press into the pan with greased hands. Allow them to cool and set about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
These look super gooey and marshmallowy and totally freakin' amazing! Love Golden Grahams too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! They were deliciously gooey :)
DeleteCould you send me like 20 of these? Thanks! ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, definitely. What's your address ;)
DeleteHow many does this make?
DeleteLove these! And ha, on the mini van. That's totally what I think when I see one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dorothy! I'm glad someone else feels the same way about mini vans, ha ha
DeleteOh. My. Gosh. First of all, I was drawn here by your pictures from the Marvelous Monday Link Party and the fact that I adore S'mores and Rice Krispy Treats. But are you serious? Your whole blog is dedicated to these marshmallowy treats?? I have to follow you...it's not a want...it's a need. I've been known to microwave some mallows in a bowl with a little pad of butter and stir in some stale Rice cereal and consider it an amazing treat. I am an addict. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHa ha thank you so much! And I definitely think microwaving up some marshmallows definitely counts as a delicious treat - I've done it many times :)
DeleteOh, yum. Hello. Totally featuring this tomorrow, Summer! Thanks for linking it up!

Thank you Mariel!
Deleterecipe bit confusing. You say "Mix together the rice krispies, Golden Grahams, Marshmallow Bits, and chocolate chips." Then set aside. Next you say melt butter and add the marshmallows. How can you do that if you say to mix together the rice krispies, golden grahams, marshmallow bits and chocolate chips. Please review your instructions and clarify what does NOT get melted. Tnx. I want to try these.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the confusion! The Marshmallow Bits and the regular marshmallows are actually 2 different things. The Bits are the tiny hard marshmallows that you'd find in a hot chocolate mix. (I have a link above to some) You mix 3/4 cup of these in with the dry cereal. Then the 6 cups of regular marshmallows are what you are melting with the butter. Hope this helps clarify!
DeleteGood greif. I think I might have died and gone to sweet treat heaven. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I'm not going to lie, I think I gained 10 lbs on these ones alone :)
DeleteJust made 2 batches and I cant wait to try them.
ReplyDeleteYum! I hope they turned out!
DeleteI'll have to try this.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, they are good ones ;)
DeleteGotta make this recipe! BTW, have you ever tried this: Smear peanut butter on Ritz Crackers, top with marshmallow and place under the oven broiler till golden brown... yummy! I like to add a few chocolate chips...
ReplyDeleteSaw these on Pinterest & knew I had to make them. They turned out amazing. I love your ratios. So gooey & delicious. I'm happy I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteI am going straight to the store to buy all ingredients and make tonight! Yum!!!!!!! Also--I have two kids and I am SO ready for a minivan. .

Just made them tonight, amazing! I used chocolate and peanut butter chips instead of just chocolate and they are awesome!!
ReplyDeleteFYI----I am in the process of looking for a minvan or suv, so I can haul my GRANDKIDS around when needed. In the case of Baby On Board sign, it is actually a necessity. If for some reason the vehicle is in need of assistance and the adult/adults are not able to respond it does help emergency responders to know there are small people who cannot help themselves to get out.
ReplyDeleteWoah, you're one miserable old lady.you are the darkness on a happy page.get a life!stop spending your time cutting down on and criticizing strangers. You know you're wrong that's why you are anonymous with your posts so JUST STOP
DeleteThe recipe is delicious and totally easy yo follow (as long as you have a brain)I was looking for something non-traditional and the "smores" caught my eye. I love that you can taste all the different flavors!YUMMY
I was just looking for a recipe for my work bake-off tomorrow, and smores rice krispie treats it is!!! I wish they were already made and waiting for me at home :)
ReplyDeleteI have never eaten S'mores. Mind blowing but true!! These look delicious and I want to make them but I have a question about the Golden Graham's. Is it better to use the crumbs or crush the cookies less fine to have larger pieces of Graham in the squares?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Golden grahams is a cereal
DeleteThese are soooo good. Mine didn't come out quite as pretty as the pics, because my chocolate chips melted when I mixed in the hot marshmallows. Next time I will wait a few minutes before mixing them. Otherwise, they are dangerously delicious!
ReplyDeleteGolden Graham Cereal I didn't even think that I did it with the graham crumbs, turned out OK, you really need a bionic arm for the mixing..lol 😁
ReplyDeleteAre these better made the day you're planning to eat them? I think original rice krispie treats are best the day you make them
ReplyDeleteWe love to make these even prior to seeing this post. We use graham crackers and definately indulged this summer and ate them for breakfast when heading out the door!
ReplyDeleteNever understood the "Baby on Board!" signs. Obviously it's for drivers behind the vehicle to read with the placement on the back of the van. With that said, does the sign mean not to rear end the van because there may be a baby in the back seat, but without the sign, it's OK to rear end the van?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the purpose of the marshmallow bits?
ReplyDeleteWould these be made with 6 cups of large mellows or minis?
ReplyDeleteCan I omit the marshmallow bits. It's hard to find in my area. Maybe more rice Crispy cereal ?
ReplyDeleteYou can definitely leave them out without adding anything. It can be hard to find them in my area too but they are so good in them.
DeleteThey are delicious!! I couldn't find the mini hot chocolate Marshmallows... 😭 But just added more of the regular minis, hoping the wouldn't melt, but they did and the chocolate did too. 🙄 But it worked and it was delicious!! I also added salt, I love salty and sweet together. 😊
