Everyone likes different textures when it comes to food. Let's take the chocolate chip cookie for example. Everyone loves a chocolate chip cookie. But not everyone likes the same type. Some like a cakey cookie. Some like a chewy cookie. Some like a crisp cookie. Some like a gooey cookie. So why wouldn't this same principle apply to rice kripsy treats? Today, we are going to find out what is Your perfect rice krispy treat texture.
I think there are 3 main categories for rice krispy textures.
1.) GOOEY. These people like their rice krispies stick-to-your-fingers, ultra gooey delicious. I respect that. Any dessert that must be eaten with a spoon because of it's gooeyness is on my radar.
Who are the GOOEY people? People that like this version are usually into decadent desserts. If there's hot fudge, they pile it on. Their slice of pie will have whipped cream and it will be the real stuff. If they have a choice between a molten lava cake and an airy layered cake, they're going for the lava. They like their cookies slightly underbaked and their brownies fudgey. If you're looking for a good time, call these people (just kidding)
So How do I modify the Recipe? Instead of the basic 1:1 ratio of rice krispies to marshmallows that all my recipes use, these people need to up the ratio to 3:4 (so for every 3 cups of rice krispies used, 4 cups of marshmallows should be used. Yum)
2.) DENSE. These people like their treats to pack some junk in the trunk. I'm talking a hearty, really chewy texture--but still with the marshmallow goo factor.
Who are the DENSE people? These people like their desserts with some substance. If they are given the choice between a light mousse or a thick milkshake, they're going for the milkshake. They like their cookies thick and chewy. Their brownies as well. Don't bother offering them a slice of angelfood cake, just move straight to the cheesecake. These people know quality when they see it.
So How do I modify the Recipe? The rice krispy to marshmallow ratio remains the same 1:1. These people are all about the extras. So for every 1 cup of marshmallow and rice krispies used, they should add in at least 1-2 Tbsp of an add-in. My top recommendations are: Peanut Butter, Nutella, Cookie Butter, or melted chocolate chips. More loving for the hugging here people.
3.) NO NONSENSE. These people like the marshmallow flavor, but aren't into getting it all over their hands/face/clothing/etc. This one's got the flavor and slight goo, but without excess.
Who are the NO NONSENSE people? These people are your middle grounders. They like their dessert sweet and indulgent, but not so much that they end up in a sugar coma. They like their cookies moist, but not underdone. Their brownies better be fudgey, but no so much that they need a spoon to eat it. Depending on their mood they could go for a brownie sundae or a fruit parfait. You want someone steady and reliable, look for these guys.
So How do I modify the Recipe? Winner winner, chicken dinner! No modification necessary--I tailor all my recipes for you people since this seems to be the majority of people. Whoo hoo!
And because some of us are visual learners, I've made a side-by-side photo comparison.
(I know what you're thinking... and yes, I was a hand model in my previous days.)
So I hope I've changed your life just a little today. You can now have a confidant answer for the next time someone asks you how you like your rice krispy treats. Because people ask that kind of question all the time ;)
Cheers!
