Pretzel Rice Krispy Treats

Today's post is something all my faithful readers (my mom) have been waiting for. A Savory rice krispy treat! Woot Woot! And just in time for Superbowl Sunday!

Pretzel Rice Krispy Treats

So the other day we are hanging out on the couch. My husband, who is on the computer, leans over and asks if I want to see his trophies. Trophies? He proudly turns the computer screen towards me: his Fantasy Football trophies. Picture me bursting into a fit of giggles.

Can we talk about football for a sec? I don't know how many times I've heard the phrase, "We got to win this one" or "This game's a big one for us"... We? Us? I mean I don't know about you, but I'm not strapping on a helmet anytime soon. And last I checked you weren't on the sidelines either buddy...

I think that's where Fantasy Football fits in. It's filled this empty void for all the men who aren't actually playing. I mean they get to pull players, assign positions, win trophies... So while I have a hard time taking it seriously (I mean really, the name says it all Fantasy Football? too easy guys), I get it. I get that my husband and 99% of guys out there love it. So I try hard to limit my teasing. But lets be honest, "do you want to see my trophies?" Even I only have so much self control.

Pretzel Rice Krispy Treats

So in honor of the Super Bowl, I am bringing you my first savory rice krispy treat! The Pretzel Rice Krispy Treat! Can you say football party food? These are salty squares of goodness with an underlying sweet kick from the marshmallows. Sounds strange but it works. What puts this over the top though? Some good ole' mustard (or a cheese suace if you don't like mustard). Because what's better then mustard (and/or cheese) and pretzels? Exactly. Go make these. Present them to your husband and try not to laugh as he does a victory dance because we (we?) just won the game.

Pretzel Rice Krispy Treats

4 Tbsp butter
6 cups marshmallows
1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
3 cups rice krispies
3 cups crushed pretzels
Your favorite Mustard (or cheese dip!)

Pour the rice krispies and crushed pretzels in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until melted.
Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and add the marshmallows and garlic powder. Stir until the marshmallows are melted. (this will take a few minutes--low and slow is key for perfect texture)

Once fully melted, take them off heat and pour over the rice krispies. Stir lightly to combine. Dump into a lightly greased 9x9 pan and let sit 5 minutes. Then go and press into the pan with lightly greased hands.  Allow them to cool about 20 minutes, then enjoy with your choice of dipping agent!
